Prevention

The importance of this area of dentistry cannot be overstated. Our mouth is a pathway to the rest of our body and dental conditions can affect our medical health. A healthy mouth can also lead to a healthier body. Our dental hygienists will teach you excellent prevention techniques as well as keep your teeth sparkling clean. Regular cleanings are an integral part of your dental health. If a patient misses to many dental cleanings eventually the gums may get a disease called periodontal disease.

Symptoms

Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) causes:

  • Red, swollen, tender gums.
  • Gums that bleed easily when brushed or flossed. Healthy gums do not bleed with regular brushing and flossing.

Because gingivitis usually isn't painful, you may not notice the symptoms and may not get the treatment you need. If you don't get treated, the disease will progress. Advanced gum disease (periodontitis) causes more noticeable symptoms, such as:

  • Gums that pull away or recede from the teeth.
  • Persistent bad breath.
  • Pus coming from the gums.
  • A change in how your teeth fit together when you bite, or a change in the fit of partial dentures.
  • Loose teeth.

If you use tobacco you have a higher risk of gum disease. Your gums may actually bleed less, even though they are unhealthy, and you may not realize it's a problem until it's too late. If you use tobacco, you will need to see your dentist more often.

Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal Scalings also known as “deep cleanings” are Non-Surgical periodontal treatments. Root Planning and Scaling are the most effective, cost effective and essential treatments to maintain the health of your gums and teeth. Root Planning and Scaling is done by carefully removing plaque and calculus from deep periodontal pockets. If your periodontal readings are higher than 7 mm, you should be concern about loosing your teeth, if not treated on time.

After periodontal treatment is essential to keep excellent oral maintenance at home and regular Periodontal cleanings with the Hygienist.

Oral Surgery

Oral surgery may be required to diagnose or treat injuries and diseases in the mouth. Biopsies can determine the presence of oral cancer or tumors, which may then be surgically removed (excised). Tooth extractions prevent or treat damage caused by impacted wisdom teeth or crowding. Surgical contouring of the jaw or gum line can correct jaw alignment problems, TMJ, malocclusion ("bad bite") or other problems.

Oral Medicine

A specialty area of dentistry based upon a sound understanding of pathophysiology of oral disease and medical-dental relationships. We pride ourselves in understanding the nature and management of any diseases affecting your oral and maxillofacial region.

Oral Pathology

The inside of the mouth is normally lined up with special type of skin (mucosa) that is smooth and coral pink in color. Any alteration in this appearance could be a warning sign for a pathological process and this is where we come in - if you feel that you or someone you know have any of the symptoms of oral pathology or if you have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask our office so we may be of some assistance to you.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Dental sedation is a technique that can be used when a patient suffers from dental anxiety, dental phobia or with children. Sedation dentistry techniques enable patients - who might otherwise avoid the dentist - to receive dental treatment necessary for a healthy smile. Nitrous Oxide Sedation is one form of conscious inhalation sedation, nitrous oxide gas (also known as laughing gas) is used to induce a state of relaxation. A local anesthetic will be administered in combination with nitrous oxide sedation to eliminate pain.

Dr. Forero is a very gentle dentist that combined with nitrous oxide sedation has changed very afraid patients to patients without dental anxiety. Call and find out for yourself.
